  • The Mad City Chronicles - Keep A Child Alive

This is a piece taken from the blog of producer Eddy J Free “The Mad City Chronicles.  Here he explains the concept of his debut CD and a little of what you can expect.

Mad city is not one specific place.  It doesn’t even have to be a city. It can be anywhere in the world.  It is a phrase that represents the chaos and madness faced by people in various environments and circumstances.

Mad city is a conceptual representation of all that can and does go wrong with any and all societies; disease, war, famine, violence, crime, slavery, poverty, and so on.  At first this may seem like a completely disturbing means of viewing the world but in fact it’s the opposite.  These problems have existed throughout humankind’s existence and doubtless will continue in some form or another.  By giving them a conceptual home, by placing them in a contextual, virtual place, we can view them more objectively and hopefully find solutions to the worst of them.

“Eddy Free’s mad city 2010” is an album produced by me and features 15 independent rappers and singers from across the country combining talents to create a set of songs that run the gamut from hip-hop to soul to techno-influenced pop.  The common thread that ties the songs together are 3 different themes: 1) The over-reliance on technology, 2) War and violence, and 3) The power to overcome all of these problems either through self-determination, spirituality, people working together or through a combination of all of these.

The album will be released digitally on May 25, 2010 atwww.madcity2010.com and subsequently on iTunes and other major internet retailers. The album will be followed by three ep’s:

    VOL 1: WARZONE on 8.9.10

VOL 2: RISE OF THE MACHINE on 10.10.10

    VOL 3: RESURRECTION on 12.1.10.

The proceeds will go to Alicia Key’s “KEEP A CHILD ALIVE” foundation to provide medications to children living with HIV/AIDS in impoverished areas of the world.

This song was co-written and is sung by vocalist/producer/songwriter William Scott who was also a Hollywood week finalist on American Idol a few seasons back.  It’s called “Unplug Yourself” and is one of 12 songs from “Eddy Free’s mad city 2010.”

  • Eddy Free’s Mad City 2010 premiered on OUTing The Music Industry

Producer Eddy J. Free (who has worked with out hip hop artists such as Tim’m West and Bone Intell), along with rapper Kaoz and singers Chaun Matayen and William Scott, we’re guests on OUTing The Music Industry hosted by Dj SirRah.  They discussed the concept of the CD “Eddy Free’s Mad City 2010” which was released Tuesday, May 25th, and how all the proceeds from the sale of the CD is being donated to the KEEP A CHILD ALIVE foundation sponsored by Alicia Keys, which helps provide medication to kids in Africa and India suffering from HIV/Aids.  The artists spoke on the process they took on creating their respective songs on the project and the idea of bringing together the many different artists from across the country and Canada.  SirRah ended the show by playing the entire Mad City 2010 CD for people to hear.  You can listen to the show by going to www.blogtalkradio.com/gaymusic and you can download “Eddy Free’s Mad City 2010” on www.MadCity2010.com (also available on iTunes, Amazon, Myspace Music, and other download sites.)
